All night makeup!

This should have come before the new year. But anyhoo, Happy New Year!
Here are some things you can do to make it last all night!

1. Face Primers
I know I say time and time and again that I don't use primers, but they are there to make your makeup last longer. One way you can do it is cut down the amount of the foundation you use when you use a primer. Since the primer is already in place, you won't need as much foundation because the primer will help smooth the foundation on more easily and keep it on for a longer time. My favourite primer is the Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer; check out the Revlon Beyond Natural Primer if you are looking for a drug store one.

2. Powder Products

Instead of cream blushes, highlighters and bronzers, go for powder ones. Cream tends to slide off your face, especially when you're feeling warm from the weather or if you're in a warm crowded space. Powders have longer staying power and won't slide off as easily.

3. Eye Primers

Ok this is a must must. I use a primer on my eyelids even if I'm not using an eye shadow. It smooths out the skin on your eye lids and helps kill out discolouration. BUT. Make sure you use minimal amount of product. You'll find that it feels oily when you first put it on but once you spread it out, it'll even out and dry to a satin finish. I don't use concealer as a base for eye shadows because i find that it still creases. Some good ones are the Too Faced Shadow Insurance and the Urban Decay Primer Potion. Don't get the one from MAC, it's thick and horrible!

4. Lip Stuff

Any lip products that you put on will be the first to go, whether you're sipping on champagne or snacking on macaroons. Do these things to help your lip stick last longer:
1. Apply lip balm before you apply your face makeup and leave it to set in
2. Blot off any excess lip balm before you applying the rest of the lip products
3. Use a lip liner as a base and colour in your lips. This ensures that your lips don't look too empty even if the lipstick wears off a little
4. Apply your first coat of lipstick/lip gloss
5. Blot it off
6. Reapply another coat of the lipstick/lip gloss
7. And of couse, carry around your lip pencil, gloss or lipstick with you in  your purse. If you are using a red lipstick, it will stain your lips so make sure you re apply when necessary. It drives my guy friends mad but hey, anything for the perfect red lip yeah?

5. Gel Liner on the Waterline

Instead of a pencil, use a gel eyeliner on your waterline, it stays on much longer. But do be careful especially if you are wearing contact lenses. The product might get caught in your lenses. This little trick isn't for everyone, so you've gotta try it to see if you're comfortable before going ahead and using it on a night out. The best drugstore gel liner would be the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner one and the best department store brand one is the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner.

6. Highlights

This has nothing to do with making your makeup last, but I'm always more generous with the highlighter in the evenings. It's not gonna work with the harsh sunlight in the day but the night light is more forgiving so highlight away!
Watch TiffanyD's video on highlighting here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1b2Yig6LkyU She talks about her favourite ones as well which are all pretty good.

7. Foundations

Another thing you have to be careful about is which foundation you use. Not all foundations that say 'long wearing' may work for you. Putting on more foundation than needed will make you look cakey - not pretty. Make sure you get a foundation that looks better as the night goes on. And because it's the night time, you don't have to use much at all. Instead, use good concealers - for the under eye, use one that's moisturiszing  or something that smooths out the lines. For the rest of your face, use something a little heavier and make sure the cover is a perfect match to your skin. I don't use the same concealer for both the undereys and for the rest of my face. Get good ones and cut down the foundation.

That's all for today! Enjoy.

Love,
Tasha
